Like any long-term, chronic disorder, the profound effects of PD may lead to depression. As the symptoms vary from day to day, so may your moods. Sadness, hopelessness, and frustration may become intense enough to lose interest in life and cause sleep problems, loss of appetite, lack of energy, or you may have difficulty concentrating. That’s why it’s important to communicate with your doctor and seek out support from others. A Parkinson’s diagnosis doesn’t mean the end of the world. It’s the beginning of a new chapter in your life, requiring some readjustments, different priorities and many wonderful opportunities to reach out to others. It affects different people in different ways, but you can live well if you manage your needs carefully. The important thing to realize is that resources and support are available to help you.
